  Company profile

INTERGEO Budapest is a joint Austrian-Hungarian venture formed by the joining of BIOKÖR, a private Hungarian company that provides an extensive scale of environmental services in Hungary, and INTERGEO Salzburg GmbH in 1992.

Specializing in conducting environmental and engineering studies, INTERGEO Budapest performs full-scale environmental services for government agencies and private companies throughout the country. Such services include environmental assessments, site characterizations, compliance audits (with authorised permission of the Ministry for Environment), environmental impact assessments, RI/FSs, analyses, and the development and design of remedial technologies focusing on in-situ and on-site soil bioremediation technologies.

INTERGEO Budapest was established with the same profile, but the new company´s activity was extended by the execution and realization of soil and groundwater remedial technologies. There is currently intensive R&D going on in the field of environmental technological equipment.

The companies' professional staff includes technical professionals in the fields of microbiology, environmental toxicology, and environmental-, chemical-, hydrogeological-, and mechanical engineering. The company has testing laboratories capable of providing physical, chemical, environmental toxicological, and microbiological analyses and are accredited under the Hungarian Unified Quality Certification System by the Hungarian Standardization Authority. INTERGEO Budpest presently provides full-scale environmental services ranging from site characterization to site remediation.

To characterize soil and groundwater pollution, the firm routinely conducts soil-gas studies. Surface and subsurface sampling includes soil boring and monitoring of well installations along with analytical and geological analysis to locate both the horizontal and vertical extent of contamination. The clean-up design and planning process includes the study of transport mechanisms, laboratory screening of the microbiological degradability of industrial origin organic contaminants, and the conducting of feasibility tests of remedial technologies.

The clean-up activity of the company has been recently certified according to the EN ISO 9001

In 1995 the firm established a soil biotreatment facility at Nagyatád, which serves for ex-situ decontamination of hydrocarbon contaminated soils, arising in the South Transdanubian area. The technological process is based on a INTERGEO Budapest patent. The treatment facility is authorized by the South Transdanubian Inspectorate for Environmental Protection.

Environmental investigation of an estate
Environmental site assessment of the estate covering 5.4 hectares where formerly leather waste and galvanic sludge was illegally deposited.

Pharmaceutical production: Contamination with organic solvents
In the course of pharmaceutical production the soil and groundwater was contaminated with organic solvents in the surroundings of tanks and the factory building.

Insulating company with phenol and oil contamination
Spills of non-polymerisated phenolicformaldehyde resulted in the phenol pollution of groundwater. The area around the storage tanks was contaminated with diesel fuel and heating oil.

Remedial work at filling stations throughout Hungary Remedial work at filling stations throughout Hungary
The failure of the old technical systems had resulted in contamination of soil and groundwater.

State railway: contaminated wood treating facility. State railway: contaminated wood treating facility.
The storage, handling and runoff of chemical preservatives (oil and oil tar, chromated copper salt) used in timber treatment gave rise to soil and groundwater contamination.

Former gas motor mill, gas was generated by wood pyrolizis
Gas was generated by wood pyrolizis. The solid phase of the gas washing prozess was deponated, the strongly contaminated liquid phase infiltrated the groundwater.

Hungarian state railway: Remediation of a wood preserving facility Hungarian state railway: Remediation of a wood preserving facility
The storage and handling of treated timber and the runoff of chemical preservatives (oil, oil tar, chromated copper salt) gave rise to soil and groundwater contamination.

Contamination of a state railway brakeyard Contamination of a state railway brakeyard
The main source of contamination was a fuel spill that occurred in 1995. The breakage of an underground pipeline resulted the release of approximately 80 m³ diesel oil.

Public bus garage with subsurface contamination Public bus garage with subsurface contamination
Garage with refueling and maintenance facilities. A contamination was detected in the vicinity of the fuel handling points.

Contamination of former Soviet Military Installation fuel base Contamination of former Soviet Military Installation fuel base
A site of 200 above-ground storage tanks was contaminated with diesel fuel and lubricants. A volume of 50 m³ of subsurface soil and groundwater was contaminated by gasoline.
