| PROJECT DESCRIPTION |
Former Gas Motor Mill
The mill was operated by a gas motor drive between 1937 and 1945. Gas was generated by wood pyrolizis. The solid phase tar was separated and deponated in the course of gas washing. The strongly contaminated liquid phase infiltrated the groundwater.
Technology:
Soil excavation, groundwater pumping, air stripping, activated carbon adsorption
Project Status
Soil excavation completed, groundwater treatment system under construction
Media (quantity in m³):
Soil (ex-situ): 1100m³
Groundwater: 3000m³
Contaminants: PAHs, phenol, kreosote
Project Manager: Mihály Frisch, József Varga, Árpád Lorberer
Date of Operation: 1999-
Cleanup Goals:
TPH in soil: 1000 ppm
In groundwater phenol 0.05 mg/l BTEX 0.15 mg/l
Contaminant concentration before treatment:
In soil 1000-10000 ppm solid phase tar
In groundwater dissolved TPH 0.5-1 mg/l, BTEX 1-2 mg/l phenol 0.5-3.2 mg/l
